Standing Stone Circle I, II, II, III, IV To see a group of huge standing stones creating a circle is awe inspiring. I am so curious about how people could put these giant stones on end and keep them there for thousands of years. What were they used for? Weddings, funerals, healings, celebrations, worship, clan gatherings…no one knows for sure. They feel quite mystical and peaceful to me. They have captured my imagination for sure!
This piece was created using papers I painted using gouache paint, graphite, and holy water I gathered during my travels to sacred sites in Ireland. I then tore those papers to collage them on to a nice piece of handmade paper with a lovely deckled edge. It can be framed with the edge showing or not, depending on your preference.
My intention in using Holy Water in these paintings is to spread the peace and healing energy I felt when I was at the wells, through my artwork…so that anyone who sees them or decides to take one into their home is blessed with that peaceful, healing energy.
The symbols and shapes drawn on the background have been found in various cairns and on kerb stones in Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth.
